I can confirm that an Australian TiVoHD works in New Zealand!
The in-laws picked up a $498 160Gb unit from JB HiFi for us.
Before opening the box I activated the TiVo on the New Zealand TiVo website (mytivo.co.nz) but I don’t know that this makes any difference.
During guided setup no channels were found during the scan, but I expected that was due to the old software not supporting H.264/AAC broadcasts.
Once guided setup was complete, the system information screen showed that the software version was 8.2a01-2-663 and the country was Australia.
It was then necessary to force 3 ‘daily calls’ and reboot untill the software updated to version 11.3b2-01-2-663. It still was not possible to find any channels during a scan.
The trick then is to go to settings>channels>channel list>change area code.
Selecte "No" when asked if the information (Antenna, area code) is correct. You then get prompted as to which country you are in! You then select NZ (obviously) and don’t get a choice of area code. You can then sucessfully scan for NZ channels!

I’m experiencing some "banding" interference across the TV screen and believe it’s TiVo related. It differs depending upon what channel I’m viewing and seems to be getting worse, slowly. It’s been evident for about a week.
This is on FTA on a Thomson. It disappears if I disconnect and turn the TiVo off.
Could this indicate the deterioration, pending failure, of the Hard Drive?

Hi,
Not sure who is maintaining the channel mappings …and hoping that someone still is.
Sky has moved the Rugby channel to Channel 37. Is it possible to remap this in the guide please ?
Thank you

Heres the story:
I have a movie that I *acquired*
I place it on my laptop (win7 ult x64) which runs tivo desktop, go to the tivo, click download etc, and the movie plays.
I have a fresh install of winXP (pro x86), which I installed tivo desktop on.
I copy the movie to the winXP box, go to the tivo, click download etc, and the movie plays .. with no sound
I suspect TiVo Desktop requires some codecs to re-encode as it sends the file to tivo, any ideas?
if all else fails, I guess I can reinstall my garage "server" with win7, but I’d really like to know what the real problem is here.

TiVo was on the Good Morning show today. In our opinion Robbee Minicola failed to explain TiVo’s TV viewing awesomeness, and instead answered every question by going on about video on demand. She basically described it as a rent-a-movie device with some additional features.
Anyways, New Zealanders can enter to win a TiVoHD (with 6 months free Telescum subscription).

Anyone use the AutoTransfer option to move videos from the PC to the Tivo?
Tivo Desktop (running 2.8) allow me to designate a folder or folders on my Hard drive that will auto upload the video files to my Tivo.

I have one such folder setup, called "AutoTransfer to Tivo" which will indeed result in a video file being uploaded, however Tivo then see’s the name of all programs transferred as "AutoTransfer to Tivo" with an episode name of the actual file name of the program… this seems rather odd.
For example, if I had a file on my PC called "movie.mpg" and I place this in the folder "AutoTransfer to Tivo" then in my Now Playing List, this will show up as "AutoTransfer to Tivo" – and when I click into it I will see "movie" as the episode.
Anyone else tried this?
