Tivo IP

During your networking setup, you will see that you need some form of a dhcp server running. This can be any of the following:

  • A router that runs a dhcp server (like a wireless/hub router, multi-port ADSL modem router)
  • Linux server running dhcpd (if you’ve got this, you probably don’t need all that much help! – remember to check /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.lease file to see what it’s allocated).
  • Windows 2000, XP with Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) turned on the Internet Connection
  • Windows Server running DHCP server (again, you should know what to do from here).

If your home LAN router has dhcp built in, you should be able to connect via the router’s web interface to check what it has allocated.
For ICS, and also for router dhcp info not available:
Check what your PC has been allocated, and increment through the IP range like so:
ICS IP range should be 192.168.0.x (.1 for the PC running ICS)
ping ”your ip range here”
eg ping 192.168.0.2
eg ping 192.168.0.3 … 50
(request timed out will appear when you don’t hit anything)
Until you get a reply message from and IP – if it’s not just another PC on your network, it’ll be your Tivo.

Alternatively, you can run port scanner type software to search the IP range.

Make sure you have a link light on your hub/router for the cable plugged into the Tivo.
