Emulator not updated for daylight savings?

Posted in ozTiVo by TerminalAddict - Sep 28, 2010

My Tivo won’t keep updated time. Set the time manually to get to NZDT, then fixtivotime or phone will reset it to NZST.

Is the emulator still on NZST or have I mucked something up since last time change?

Freeview DTVS-1B setup

Posted in ozTiVo by TerminalAddict - Sep 28, 2010

Has anyone had any luck setting up the DTRVS-1B freeview decoder? I’ve used the manual setup procedure (IRSliceCreator) with some difficulty as it kept crashing and after a lot of editing have got it mainly working but not great. Mainly use it for Prime as don’t have RF reception and it struggles reading channel 10 and only gets the 1 about 30% of the time.

Thoughts?

Suggestions welcome – How to get to the new digital world of FTA.

Posted in ozTiVo by TerminalAddict - Sep 27, 2010

I’ve been taking care of a Series 1 Philips setup since 2005, which my wife coerced my son in law to get for her back in 2005, originally on a dial up modem. I fitted a bigger disk, and a LAN connection when we finally got broadband, and it’s been sweet as for the last 18mths. No Sky, no HD, still a CRT TV using RF FTA with a good aerial setup.
Now- we’ve moved house. The RF is crap, and it’s being phased out anyway, so I’m not going to bother fixing the aerials.
otoh, the sat dish picks up 15 channels of Freeview FTA, but it only feeds one at a time to the RF input on my Tivo.

I’d like to help pay back my free ride of the last few years (thanks guys, much appreciated, especially by the other half) by doing the IR codes for the Digitview 110 Freeview box we’re using, if someone can point me in the right direction to make this happen.

New to Tivo – need help with setup

Posted in ozTiVo by TerminalAddict - Sep 25, 2010

Hi Everyone,
I am totally new to Tivo, just set it up today. Now telecom tell me (after two hours of threatning to throw the damned thing at the wall!) that activation takes 24 hours.

My question is Does NOTHING work until activation? I have tried to set it up, and i am certainly no techn phobe, but it isnt picking up ANY channels at all, not even the standard tv1 & 2 channels, and there is no audio at all either.

Will those things work only with activation, or should there be SOMETHING now? i get the welcome screen, and the talking me through setup screens, but again, no audio or no channels….

Help…am i just too impatient?

Thomson PVR10UK & Freeview setup

Posted in ozTiVo by TerminalAddict - Aug 31, 2010

We’re looking to upgrade to Freeview HD signal and are looking for suggestions or recommendations.

We have a Thomson PVR10UK and a newish Panasonic Viera TV (TH-L19X10Z). Currently we have RF from the aerial on our building in to the Tivo and RF out to the TV. Is it possible to make use of the better quality SCART connections? Should we try to find a Freeview Terrestrial decoder with SCART connections eg. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List…x?id=313547395

While I’m at it – could we also use a SCART output from the Tivo to the TV? Perhaps a SCART to Component connection?

Any suggestions very welcome!

Seasons passes not working properly

Posted in ozTiVo by TerminalAddict - Aug 24, 2010

Has anyone else in the last few days noticed that their Seasons Passes are no working properly?

For example One News was not recorded on Sunday night, but future ‘episodes’ had the double tick next to them.
The SP for Shortland Street has no ticks beside any future episodes. On Sunday we selected last nights episode and chose ‘record this episode’ so that it had the single tick next to it, however it still did not record last night. The TiVo did not complain of any conflicts.
Other seasons passes are exhibiting the same thing, with future episodes no longer scheduled to record (but listed), or scheduled to record but just don’t get recorded.

Getting MKVs onto TiVo with subtitles – how?

Posted in ozTiVo by TerminalAddict - Aug 16, 2010

Since I watch a lot of Japanese anime, which comes in MKV files with Japanese soundtrack and English subtitles, this is something I’d really like to do.

Normal MKV->AVI converters simply lose the subtitles – no good for me. Some MKVs can be transferred without conversion but again lose subtitles.

I’ve heard of some MKV->AVI converters which render the subtitles into the video, though not found any that are free. These are good, but it would be best to have subtitles as a true subtitle stream.

Apparently there are numerous little utilities that can extract the subtitle stream, then another converts the mkv to a mp4, then the extracted subtitles can be changed to another format, then added in to the MP4 as a subtitle stream which the TiVo HNP will correctly transfer over… but I’ve not found anything that can do this in one go, not anything to do the dmuxing or adding MP4 subtitles stream without a lot of cost.

I wonder if anyone has anythingto do this? It would be a great utility if you could simply drop an MKV into a tool and it output an mp4 with subtitle stream, but I suspect I’d have to write this myself – and I’ve nowhere near enough knowledge of video to do this. At least you’d be able to assume 4:3 or 16:9 screen ratio… there’d be the issue of picking a subtitle and audio track though.

Anyone have any ideas?
